My maternal grandmother was Erma Ruth McCord, the granddaughter of James McCord. James married twice, first Margaret JULIAN, and after her death, Margaret's sister Climena Drusilla JULIAN; six children were born of each union. It is believed that James's father, Francis, emigrated from Ireland (or perhaps Scotland) sometime between 1784 and 1824, passing through Virginia and into Hocking County, Ohio, by 1825. James moved his family to Clinton County, Indiana in the late 1870s. A few of his children eventually moved to Tippecanoe County, Indiana.

Below is a list of the major research questions I am trying to answer on the McCord family. If you have any clues or information that would help to solve these puzzles please send me an email at mccord@hoosierroots.com.

  • Where and when was Francis McCord born? Was he born in Ireland as family lore says? When did he immigrate and through what port? Where and when did he die? The family believes his wife's name was Mary; is there any truth to that?

  • Where in Ohio was James McCord born (April 14, 1827)? Trace his movements from Hocking County, Ohio to Clinton County, Indiana. Some family members beleive he spent some time in Missouri. He may have also lived in Adams County, Ohio and/or Jasper (or Pulaski) County, Indiana.

  • Where was Joseph Ensley McCord born (April 27, 1874)? Find documentation for his birth.

  • Virginia Ann "Jenny" Stover was born on January 27, 1869 in Indiana, daughter of William B. and Martha (Metheny) Stover. Where was Jenny born?

  • Climena Drusilla JULIAN (or perhaps Drusilla Climena Julian) was born December 6, 1845 (most likely in Ohio) and died June 1, 1913 in Clinton County, Indiana. She married James McCord January 28, 1865 in Fairfield, Ohio. James was first married to Climena's sister, Margaret Julain. Where was Climena born and whe were her parents? It is believed that Climena had a borther Valentine who also moved to Indiana.
